Great Weekend

Hi Bloggettes,

Just had a great weekend (most of it spent afloat) so by definition it was great. On Friday Teresa travelled up to Cliff college with me for my tutorial, it took ages to get there through the mad bank holiday traffic!

After Teresa finished work on Saturday we spent the afternoon on the boat catching some rays. Chloe took Carys and James to Wickstead Park (nr Kettering) and in the evening we had a great BBQ - the first of the season with Amy & James F.

On Sunday Teresa and I bunked off church and took the boat down through three locks on the River Great Ouse to Great Barford. The weather was fabulous, the river quiet and we got a good spot right outside the Anchor pub where we had a great evening meal. Had a cosy night in the boat watching the DVD 'Australia'. Got a good night and awoke to tea and bacon butties. James, Carys, James F and Amy joined us at about 9.30 for the journey back. Sadly the weather was not so good on the journey home. It rained, well, it is a bank holiday. Arrived back at our home marina complete with the obligatory grazes, bumps, sun burnt face and green slime marks from the locks. PERFECT.

Got a three day retreat booked next week at Launde Abbey, actually Launde is full but I'm going to stop in a nearby hotel or pub and travel in as a day guest. Looking forward to some 'me' time, got a few things to work through, some issues to explore, some books to read.

I've got my oncologist' appointment at 11.30 tomorrow and should get my treatment schedule then. Not quite sure what will start when at this stage but I'll let you know tomorrow.Health remains OK - can't handle big meals or watching others eat once I finished but apart from that I'm in really good 'fettle'.

Best wishes to blogging friends Geoff (on Pilgrimage to the Holy Land) and David (off to Spain) - any room in your suitcases guys if I promise to behave?

Thanks for checking in again.

Have great week.

David

Glad your enjoying your boat so much.
Neil really jealous, now. We have had some great boating holidays, and it is his dream to get a boat of his own when he retires, so that we can just take off when the fancy takes us.Boat life is so relaxing...just what you need while so much is going on.Still, your're not a proper "boatie" til you have fallen in, or dropped your lock winding equipment in the water and lost it.
Yesterday, we here in Lid had our May Day village celebration, despite the weather, with the Hill Race starting the events off in the morning.Lid church did games for the kids, and of course a BBQ. Great fun, lots of fellowship, and plenty of witnessing going on. I did not run the race this year, as I HAD to help on the BBQ, and of course I had to give the other runners a chance of collecting a trophy. Pat and I usually do it in fancy dress, and one year we did win the veterans trophy....that was because we were the ONLY veterans in the race!!!
Anyway, praying continues. Praying especially for the treatment schedule not to be too awful, and that you have absolutely no symptoms when it does begin.
The ponies are fine...thanks for asking, they say they would love to meet Carys' pony, when she gets it!!!!

Love as always to all of you,

Hi David,
My name is also David Redfern and I live in Bay City, MI and today the 16th I am taking my boat on it's first voyage. I am excited and I am also going to fish a little. I am not sure where you're located but sounds like a wonderful place. I have a slightly larger family 5 children 3 boys, 2 girls and they keep myself and my wife busy. I assume you are getting ready to embark on a journey of fighting cancer, sorry to hear at such young age you are going through this. I will be turning 40 6/10/2009 and I am trying to heal a herniated disk in the lower back along with some other issues with the disk, and my therapist says I am too young to have these problems. I will pray for you and may the good LORD heal you and protect your family during your long journey. My email address is dcred1016@chartermi.net GOD Bless.
