Changes....

Hi all

Just a quickie this morning ( 'oh er missus' as my 14 year old son would say and he's never even seen a 'Carry On' film!!)

I have a theory that I have been concocting over the past few weeks which I would like to share with you.....I think this weather is sent by the Lord as some sort of amazing 'I know things are really bad right now so I'm going to make the sun shine for you all in April for weeks on end which it never does and oh I'll make it about 70 degrees as well just so David can sit on his deck for a few hours and soak it up' type thing. Your thoughts on this please....

David managed to make it home for a few hours yesterday afternoon and sit on his deck in ths sun. He is looking very thin and weak but otherwise is in good spirits. There is a now a small, growing hope that he may be able to be discharged next week into the care of the community nurses if he remains stable. This is more than we had dared dream but the nurses tell me that at his stage things are obviously very unpredictable so we must continue to take things a day at a time....but while there is life....

Meanwhile I making some small changes to make life a bit easier in the face of not having my hubbie at home and I am also learning new skills such as landscaping, skip-filling and cleaning out the fish tanks! Life is change and change is often scary but I am learning that if you face up to the change you need to make rather than allowing yourself to be caught up in the 'well it's never going to be the same' mindset then actually it's ok. Life will never be the same again....I knew that a lifetime ago on a bleak December morning sitting in Dr Saunder's office in Bedford hospital.

So...I have bought myself a new lawnmower, cleaned out the garage so I can actually physically get into it (yes it was that bad!) and bought a new juicer that doesn't leak everywhere! Daft things I know but somehow they are helping me to cope because they are helping me to cope if that makes any sense at all..

Today a tonne of rockery stone and 3/4 of a tonne of topsoil are arriving so that I can finish off landscaping the front garden which is what David has been wanting to do for so long...so a busy day ahead. Dave's mum and dad arrive today for a couple of days to visit so David is planning to have a little trip out with them to his beloved boat this afternoon so will let you know how it all goes.

Keep smiling...you know you want to...Flo xx

Real quick blog as I should be on my way to work, but I share your theory! I had worked out that two weeks ago we sat with Dave and prayed for a summer with the family.... well here it is, great to hear he's able to enjoy it. When you've finished mowing that lawn I've got a few jobs that need doing....
Hope you all have a good day.

Dearest Teresa,
Thank you again for blogging and sharing your thoughts with us. Nick and I have sat over the past couple of weeks and talked and talked and talked some more about a lot of the things you've written about. We totally share your thoughts on this summer weather we're having - when is is ever this sunny in April - more lollies required I'm sure to quench David's thirst!!!!! The next batch are being prepared!!! Without sounding patronising (I know we've already spoken loads about making small changes and chapters in life) but you're doing a fantastic job at doing things for you to make things managable in what ever way you feel best. There is no right or wrong way to do anything, just the way that is best for you, just take on each day at a time.
Gr8 news that David came home yesterday and may do again for longer next week - David if your reading this...........enjoy going home and relax in that sun lounger and be still!!!!!! Lots and lots of love to you all, enjoy today and the sunshine, Love Sarah and Nick x x x x

Ditto the above. I've just come back from taking the dog for a walk and am now teally hot. I have already thanked God for the weather and decided that as you wanted a summer God was giving it to us now. I pray for a very long summer.
You are all inspirational.
Just to let you know that normality is well and truly in the Redfern household a long with the illness. I too have had a clear out. Skip was delivered on Friday and having shared worship time with Dave on Friday I too was inspired to sort my life out. Ok so I was started with the easy things, garage, utility room and dining room side board. The tupperware cupboard is now nearly orderly! Still I now know I have enough camping equipment to take at least 12 other people to New Wine so any takers please see me! By the way I have enough paper plates and white wine, now chilling in my newly cleaned out fridge, to have a party so again any passers by please come in! All welcome.
Love to you all.

It seems strange that we are all making changes - my dining room has had a real going through - I never knew I had that many tablecloths!! As for the the weather, it has been fantastic; my spirits are always uplifted by sunshine and warmth - it's very hard to be miserable. Having a purpose in life is important, is your glass half empty or half full? Doing things, making changes, getting on with things that need doing makes sense and keeps the level in your glass steady. You are so brave Flo, really brave - I read your blogs and am amazed that you can find time to keep us all informed of dear Davids progress amidst everything else you are doing. Thank you Flo - give him a big but gentle hug for me. x x x x

I woke this morning at 7:15 laughing!!
Hearing you singing so loudly to wake Carys up actually put a HUGE smile on my face. Now I'm being naughty cause you also yelled my name and said "Are you up yet slacker" with your laugh. I stayed under the covers trying not to laugh "haha" oh what a LOVELY sound I woke up to this morning. I bet if someone to look in from the Village they'd not believe you were going through these HUGE changes.

I also should add, later at some point Teresa is going to mow the lawn, whilst sipping her freshly squeezed juice IN her new heels. They were all ordered at the same time. I am a witness too, the garage is looking rather spiffing and now has been transformed into some kind of girly organised gargae. Teresa is just getting over why David has collected SO many screw drivers. I'm sure we could also have a screw drive party amoungst all the other garage stuff Suzy and yourself have found!

No but, it was so nice to hear you singing and laughing this morning. This weather has been SO lovely. Like I say "if it was raining we'd be feeling like total crap, but we've been given the sun at this hard time!" Whoop whoop!

Alright Alright I'm up!

I shall help with the rockery this morning :o)

It's great to hear that Dave is able to enjoy "his Summer". As David G said, we also prayed for a Summer for you all - thank you God - and pray that it is the longest one on record. I did ponder as I walked into school this morning if I should play truant on such a lovely day.

If Chloe (are you up yet?) needs any help shifting all those stones - let me know - I will send the boys over!

Even at this very difficult time, with the sun and the love we have for one another shining through - I think we have things to celebrate - so sounds like Suzy is hosting the party although I'm really not sure what a 'screw drive' party is Chloe?

Hope you all have a good day and enjoy the sunshine.

Lots of Love Lisa B & boys

Hi Theresa,
I too think your theory is spot on. In the midst of all the rubbish that life throws at us our wonderful God smiles on us. For me (without going into all the psychological reasons why) when the sun shines, it feels like God is smiling on me and the spirits lift and feel lighter somehow. Long may it continue!
We will pray that Dave will remain stable so that some longer time at home may be possible.
In the meantime I envy you your energy for all these practical tasks and if you ever want a job.....!
Love Gerry

Hi Teresa, David & Family - we are so pleased that you Dave are feeling perkier and that you managed some time at home yesterday. It will be wonderful if you get discharged next week and are able to be in your own surroundings. I thought of a funny story the other day - can you remember Dave when we worked together all those years ago in Oundle? We had run a course for several weeks and at the end we organised an end of course dinner for everyone. We all had to do an after dinner 'turn' and you chose George Who Played with a Dangerous Toy & Suffered a Catastrophe of Considerable Dimensions. You did an excellent job and your delivery (as always) was superb. However, having put the balloon in the candle flame it set the fire alarm off in the hotel and the fire brigade was called out!! It was so funny. Last year on my travels I bumped into a delegate that was on that course and he remembered your peom & the fire alarm!! By the way I still have that poem and read often. I love it. Hi Guys
We spent a lovely day at the butterfly farm in Wilden yesterday, (not far from you)with our daughter and our youngest grandson Jacob. We talked about you and thanked God for the lovely weather he is providing for you. Glad you will have your Mum and Dad today David. It must have been hard to say goodbye to Adrian. We pray that you get to the boat today for some lapping water sounds along with the sunshine.

I have to say that I haven't been smitten by the 'clearing out' bug although as Ken has a new shed some enforced clearing out of the old one is taking place so that it can be dismantled and taken to the tip.
We will think of you Teresa and Chloe and you build the rockery today. Maybe we'll get to see it when David is home net week. We'll be praying that he can come home and enjoy some more early summer on the deck.
Just a thought, if a late summer is called an 'Indian Summer' what is an early one called?
Love Mu & Ken
